Frequently asked questions

The common questions retailers ask us about EAS, RFID, ordering, and installation. If yours isn't here, get in touch.

EAS and security tags

What is the difference between AM and RF security tags?

AM (Acousto-Magnetic) operates at 58 kHz and offers higher detection rates, particularly against metallic or foil-packaged goods. RF (Radio Frequency) operates at 8.2 MHz and is typically more cost-effective for high-volume retail.

AM is generally preferred for pharmacy, grocery, and high-value retail. RF is popular for fashion and general merchandise. Labels and gates must match technology - you cannot mix AM labels with RF gates. Full comparison in our AM vs RF guide.

Do security tags work through packaging?

Yes, both AM and RF labels work through most non-metallic packaging. For items in foil packaging (blister packs, metallic cosmetic tubes, food pouches), use AM foil-safe labels which are specifically tuned for that.

How does a security tag get removed or deactivated?

Labels are deactivated by passing them over a deactivator pad at the till. This neutralises the tag so it doesn't trigger the gate.

Hard tags are physically removed using a detacher - a magnetic device at the till. The tag is then reused on new merchandise.

Can thieves remove security tags?

Professional thieves use booster bags (foil-lined) and powerful neodymium magnets. The way to counter this is SuperLock hard tags (require specialist keyed detachers not magnets) and AM technology (more resistant to foil shielding than RF).

EAS systems and installation

How long does an EAS system installation take?

A single-store EAS installation typically takes 1-2 days from arrival on site to sign-off. Multi-site rollouts are coordinated in phases and usually complete within 2-8 weeks from order depending on store count.

Can an EAS system be retrofitted to an existing store?

Yes. EAS gates can be retrofitted to most store layouts. Refits typically take 1-2 days per store. Non-refit (new store fit-out) installations are coordinated with shopfitters as part of the original build.

Who installs TagShopUK's EAS systems?

All EAS installations are carried out by our sister company Link Integrated Security Solutions Ltd, based in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Link has over 20 years of experience in fire and security systems and is a CrossPoint Premium Partner.

What is a CrossPoint Premium Partner?

CrossPoint is Europe's leading EAS manufacturer. Premium Partner status is their highest certification level - direct factory support, first access to new systems, and exclusive training. It means we work directly with CrossPoint rather than through a distributor.

RFID

What is the difference between EAS and RFID?

EAS is for theft detection - it detects tagged items leaving the store. RFID is for inventory management - it reads a unique ID from each tag, enabling stock counts and tracking. They solve different problems. See full comparison.

Do I need to replace my EAS system to use RFID?

No. RFID runs alongside existing EAS. Many modern fashion retailers use dual-tech labels (combined RFID + EAS) - one label provides both capabilities.

What inventory accuracy can I expect from RFID?

Typical RFID deployments achieve 98-99% inventory accuracy, compared to 65-75% for manual counting. Read accuracy at portals is 99.7% at normal walking speeds.

Who is Keonn?

Keonn is a Barcelona-based UHF RFID hardware manufacturer. Their portals, fitting room readers and handhelds are deployed across European retail. TagShopUK is a Keonn System Integrator - we install, integrate and support their kit in the UK.

Ordering and delivery

Do you deliver to the whole UK?

Yes. Free UK delivery on all orders. We ship to the UK mainland, Highlands, Islands and Northern Ireland. Most stocked items dispatch next working day.

How fast is delivery?

Next working day on stocked consumables (ordered before 2pm). Gates and systems are 2-5 working days depending on specification. Large volume orders may be quoted separately.

Do you offer trade discounts?

Bulk pricing is shown on each product. For large or recurring orders, apply for a business account for VAT-exclusive pricing and 30-day terms. See Business Accounts.

Can I order on account instead of paying by card?

Yes. Approved business customers can raise a purchase order and pay on 30-day terms. Apply via the Business Accounts page - approval takes 1-2 working days.

What is your returns policy?

Unopened standard-stock items can be returned within 14 days. Special orders and custom tagging are non-refundable. See our full returns policy.

About TagShopUK

Where are you based?

Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. All stock ships from our UK warehouse. Installation engineers dispatch from Mansfield across the UK mainland.

Are you part of a larger company?

TagShopUK is the retail loss prevention arm of Link Integrated Security Solutions Ltd, a fire and security company with over 20 years of UK experience. Both businesses operate from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.

Why should I choose TagShopUK over a large national distributor?

Two reasons. First, we install and maintain what we sell - not just ship boxes. Second, our pricing is published openly and you can apply for account terms in 1-2 days rather than weeks of procurement back-and-forth.

Can I speak to someone directly?

Yes. When you phone or email, you speak to specialists who know EAS and RFID inside out. No call-centre routing.
